An anthology of Russian folktales.

Ed. by Jack V. Haney.

M.E. Sharpe, Inc.

2009

340 pages

$84.95

Hardcover

GR203

A retired US professor of medieval Russian literature, folklore, and language, Haney has selected 99 tales from the seven-volume Complete Russian Folktale. To these he has added 12 anecdotes and three serial tales from the far north that have never been translated before and are virtually unknown even to Russians. Other sections reflect conventional tale types: animal tales, wonder tales, legends, everyday life, and clever fools. Baba Yaga turns up now and then, of course. A glossary and index of tale types and motifs is included.
