A native of South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa.  who studied in the US and has taught widely, Paasche (English and Education, American U. College of Technology, Lebanon) investigates what happened to education in South African at the end of apartheid apartheid (əpärt`hīt) [Afrik.,=apartness], system of racial segregation peculiar to the Republic of South Africa, the legal basis of which was largely repealed in 1991–92.  in 1994, but also in the 150 years preceding it. Her goal is to provide a historical background that Black, White, and Colored South African's can use as they struggle to create the new order spoken of in the country's constitution.
