An Explosive Market Awaits Vendors That Can Offer Remote End-Point Security Products for Enterprise End Users, Says New Report from the Yankee Group.

Business/Technology Editors

The market for remote end-point security (REPS) products that scale to growing enterprise security needs will exceed $260 million by 2006, argues a Report recently published by the Yankee Group (the Yankee Group, Boston, MA, www.yankeegroup.com) A major market research, analysis and consulting firm founded in 1970 by Howard Anderson. It provides general consulting and strategic planning in the computer and communications field. . The Report, "Enterprise Remote End-Point Security Products: Driving Security Policies to the Last Mile," discusses the characteristics of enterprise REPS products, including manageability, scalability, and flexible integration with existing and planned security policy enforcement infrastructure and point solutions.

The Yankee Group's analysis of this market includes recommendations for existing REPS vendors as well as those contemplating entering the market. For enterprise end users in the process of selecting a REPS solution, Yankee Group Security Solutions & Services senior analyst Anil Phull offers the following advice: "Evaluate the total cost of security for each REPS product solution, and demand from your REPS suitors a tailored ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot).  analysis to determine the potential payback Payback

and loss avoidance scenarios. When security budgets are limited, it may also make sense to instead use a REPS service provider to ensure a similar level of protection without the need for up front capex. Ultimately, before considering a REPS product or service provider, ensure that a robust and enforceable enterprise security policy, especially for the activities of remote end users, is in place."

This Yankee Group Report also profiles competitive REPS product vendors and identifies the specific features and functions that need to be considered in the design as well as purchase of enterprise REPS solutions.
