Rasmussen began his metalcasting career in 1959 with the U.S. Gypsum gypsum (jĭp`səm), mineral composed of calcium sulfate (calcium, sulfur, and oxygen) with two molecules of water, CaSO4·2H2O. Des Plaines (pronounced IPA [dɛsˈpleɪnz]) is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States.
, as a supplier to plaster mold foundries. In 1965, he moved to American Precision Casting Co., Chicago, where he became vice president of engineering. In 1980, Rasmussen was hired by Universal Castings, Chicago, as vice president of engineering, before joining AFS in 1987 as associate technical director.

"Wayne is one of the most knowledgeable aluminum foundrymen you'll find and is dedicated to his job of serving the industry," said Roy Lobenhofer, Lobenhofer Consulting, Inc., who was head of the AFS Technical Dept. when Rasmussen joined. "You wanted Wayne on your team because he was always there for you."

It helps create test materials, tracks the results and monitors student progress.  as director of education, and then took the reins of CMI from June 1999-April 2000 as executive director-education. He then returned to the Technical Dept. in 2000 as vice president of technology.

Rasmussen's retirement marks 43 years as a member of the metalcasting industry (the last 15 at AFS).

Rasmussen was able to have his greatest impact on the industry while teaching classes for CMI. "Wayne had a very positive influence on CMI during his tenure," said Ian Kay, CMI vice president of education, who worked closely with Rasmussen at CMI. "He has always had the ability to put highly technical information into terms easily understood by foundrymen at all levels."

Rasmussen and his wife, Annette, have two sons, Bradley and Darin, one daughter, Sally, and seven grandchildren.
