company that accelerates the development of network infrastructure equipment, announced today that EZchip Technologies (a subsidiary of LanOptics Ltd., Nasdaq:LNOP), a fabless semiconductor company A fabless semiconductor company specializes in the design and sale of hardware devices implemented on semiconductor chips. It achieves an advantage by outsourcing the fabrication of the devices to a specialized semiconductor manufacturer called a semiconductor foundry or "fab.  providing high-speed network processors, has selected its networking software product.

EZchip is enabling the integration of the entire FASTPATH software suite - including Switching, Routing, Management and Quality of Service (QoS) - with its NP-1, NP-1c and QX-1 family of network processors and traffic managers. As a result, EZchip and LVL7 can offer to joint customers the industry's first completely integrated 10-Gigabit networking hardware Networking hardware typically refers to equipment facilitating the use of a computer network. Typically, this includes routers, switches, access points, network interface cards and other related hardware.  and software system solution. Switching and routing infrastructure solutions range from Layer 2 VLANs and Link Aggregation See port aggregation.  to advanced Routing, QOS and other system applications.

"With the added functionality of FASTPATH software, customers can quickly capitalize on Cap´i`tal`ize on`

the classification performance and lower cost and power consumption that EZchip's network processors offer. It's an attractive and cost-effective solution for networking system vendors developing multi-gigabit networking devices," said Bob Wheeler, senior analyst at The Linley Group.

Integration and testing is scheduled to be completed in First Quarter 2003. Typical products that can implement the joint solution include 10 Gigabit Ethernet An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub.  line cards, 8x1-Gigabit Ethernet line cards and stand-alone boxes.

"EZchip recognized early on the importance of developing integrated communications systems with networking software vendors and our work with LVL7 is an extension of that strategy. NP-1 provides tremendous cost savings and extends customer's product lifetime. The integration with LVL7 further helps customers save money and decrease time to revenue," said Amir Eyal, EZchip's vice president of business development.

EZchip is leveraging LVL7's MasterDriver(TM) technology - a set of API's that allow developers to easily port FASTPATH software to any silicon platform - to integrate FASTPATH 3.0 with the NP-1, NP-1c and QX-1 devices. This partnership represents LVL7's first 10 Gigabit processor design win for MasterDriver(TM) since it was formally introduced in October 2002.

"The EZchip system implementation is a prime example of how the MasterDriver(TM) technology simplifies the process of porting FASTPATH software to any networking silicon. In addition, it proves the scalability of FASTPATH switching and routing software for use in Fast Ethernet An earlier name for 100Mbps Ethernet. See 100Base-T.

to 10-Gigabit network devices," said Kishore Jotwani, LVL7's vice president of marketing.

Available as a component of FASTPATH 3.0, MasterDriver(TM) is a pre-instrumented reference driver that provides a framework for the development of low-level network device drivers and allows for immediate development of higher-level applications and protocols in parallel with hardware development.

This partnership brings together two networking technologies that have been recognized this year as the best in the networking industry. FASTPATH 3.0 captured a prestigious "Best of Interop" award as the best embedded networking technology at Networld + Interop 2002, while the NP-1 won "Best of Show" honors at the 2002 Network Processor Conference (NPC 1. EZchip has joined LVL7's Smart Start partner program, an initiative that integrates LVL7's FASTPATH software and intellectual property with partner technologies to provide customers a smarter path to market.

About the Technologies

EZchip NP-1 10-Gigabit 7-Layer Network Processor

EZchip's NP-1 flagship network processor is a single-chip 10-Gigabit 7-layer full-duplex network processor providing fully programmable packet classification, modification, forwarding and policing at wire speed. Unlike other network processors which require external devices for classification, namely CAMs and SRAMs, the NP-1 is based on EZchip's TOPcore(R) architecture, eliminating the need for any of these classification components. NP-1 based solutions require only four low-power, low-cost DRAM chips for classification. The bit density of a DRAM chip is 30 times higher than that of a CAM chip, while its power dissipation and cost per bit are approximately 280 times and 1000 times lower respectively. Consequently NP-1 dramatically reduces the total system chip-count, power and cost while extending a system's time in market by the extensive classification headroom head·room

LVL7 FASTPATH(TM) 3.0 Software

FASTPATH is an independent and flexible embedded networking software architecture that features advanced Layer 2 Switching, Layer 3 Routing; and Layer 4+ applications and protocols. Representing 80 man-years of development time and including more than 1.2 million lines of production quality code, FASTPATH provides all of the code required to build an advanced networking infrastructure product. FASTPATH runs across multiple embedded operating systems An operating system used in special-purpose applications (embedded systems). Embedded operating systems are typically very compact and often designed for real time operations.
