An Artist and Teacher.

Making art is what I do best in life. I paint in the style of realism and choose subjects to suit my temperament temperament, in music, the altering of certain intervals from their acoustically correct values to provide a system of tuning whereby music can move from key to key without unacceptably impure sonorities. . I draw and paint bison because I like the forceful and composed qualities these animals possess. I attempt to reveal the power and spirit of each animal I paint. My work is resolved when the paintings look back at me.

Years ago, while completing my Master of Fine Arts Noun 1. Master of Fine Arts - a master's degree in fine arts

degree, one of my professors suggested my artistic pursuits would suffer badly if I took a job teaching art in the public schools. He made it clear that by the end of the school day I would be too tired to paint. He stated that I should try to teach at the university level, as it is easier on the mind and spirit. I think he personally believed that any job would be better than teaching children.

Initially swayed by his advice, I avoided teaching, pursued my art, and hustled part-time jobs when I needed money.

Occasionally I did some substitute teaching, which I liked, and eventually started teaching art halftime. It turned out to be a very satisfying experience, much better than substituting, hauling logs, or pursuing my own art full-time. I made a better living, had some benefits, and was able to finish a body of work for exhibition and sale.

I decided that I could handle a full-time teaching job. I have been teaching art for eleven years and this has become my school-year routine. After I teach all day, I go home to my studio to work. Teaching is fatiguing, but, as Robert Henri Robert Henri (June 25, 1865 - July 12, 1929) was an American painter notable for his teaching and leadership of the Ashcan School movement in art.  said, "painting fatigued is a good action, it rejuvenates the artist's spirit and gives strength to paint into the night."

Teaching and painting work well together. It's hard work, but the rewards are there to enjoy. What I learn in the studio, I can bring back into the classroom. I share my work with my students. They see in my work the importance of preliminary studies and the technical use of drawing. More importantly, I get immediate gratification GRATIFICATION.
