Amy's i: THE 8210? IT'S A TOTAL CROCKIA.

Byline: Amy Vickers

CARPHONE Warehouse has changed its mind - again - about the troubled Nokia 8210.

A few days after pulling the phones off the shelves citing faulty stock, it's now saying it has "resolved the recent issue with the product" and they're back on sale.

Turns out, however, the 8210 problems are much more fundamental than a simple "issue with defective screens".

As well as LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) A display technology that uses rod-shaped molecules (liquid crystals) that flow like liquid and bend light. An Amy'si source in Nokia customer services says the 8210 has become the bane BANE. This word was formerly used to signify a malefactor. Bract. 1. 2, t. 8, c. 1.  of the department's life.

"We get about 40 calls a day about faulty 8210s," she said. "The number of faulty 8210s has hit a record high and repair shops all over UK and Ireland have used up their supplies of screens and reconditioned re·con·di·tion

"I have heard reports of more than 100 people on the waiting list for reconditioned handsets, but the biggest insult is that replacements are just as faulty as the originals."

Customer Nick South told us he was now on his seventh replacement in less than a year.

"Nokia claim it's not their responsibility. The shop (Talkworld) claim it's not theirs. And Trading Standards don't want to know. It sucks."

So why is Carphone Warehouse willing to flog them again?

It says it's checked all stock and is now "satisfied with the condition of our Nokia 8210 handsets". Er, think we'll pass for now, thanks.
