ED Richards, Tony Blair's former senior policy adviser on net issues, has given the game away at a broadband lecture organised by the Oxford Internet Institute.

Speaking about Blair's priorities after the 2001 General Election, he said: "Tony Blair said, 'First, I want you to tell me what this broadband thing is. Second, I want you to tell me why it's in crisis, and third, I want you to sort it out.'"

And now, two years later? "He remains fascinated by it. Not a quarter has gone by without him asking for an update from me."

Four times a year? How fascinated is that?
