TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 1995--Amtech Systems Inc. (NASDAQ NASDAQ

:ASYS) Friday reported net income of $94,000, or $.10 per primary share, on revenues of $10,555,000 for fiscal 1994 which ended Sept. 30, 1994.

In comparison, net income of $509,000, or $.51 per primary share, on revenues of $8,342,000 was reported for fiscal 1993.

Income before income taxes was $106,000 in fiscal 1994, a decline of $493,000 from the $599,000 amount earned in fiscal 1993. Income before income taxes would have been higher in fiscal 1994 as compared to 1993 except for the fact that research and development costs increased in 1994 and fiscal 1993 includes the recognition of non-recurring income.

The company increased research and product development expenditures in fiscal 1994 by $257,000 in an attempt to expand its primary business, the semiconductor equipment business.

The reason for the increase was the $355,405 expended ex·pend

The results of the study are expected to be available to the company by June 30, 1995.

Non-recurring income totalling $271,000 was recognized in fiscal 1993, with no comparable items in fiscal 1994, which accounts for the remaining decline in 1994 earnings as compared to 1993.

Specifically, in fiscal 1993 the company realized $141,000 from the settlement of patent infringement patent infringement n. the manufacture and/or use of an invention or improvement for which someone else owns a patent issued by the government, without obtaining permission of the owner of the patent by contract, license or waiver.  litigation An action brought in court to enforce a particular right.
