TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 2002

Amtech Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:ASYS) ("Amtech" or the "company") announced $1.6 million in new orders (2) from Asian customers on May 24, 2002.

Since then the company has received various inquiries regarding whether those orders were included in the April 30, 2002 backlog Backlog

The total value of sales orders waiting to be fulfilled.

Notes:
This figure is used mainly in the manufacturing industry. Increases or decreases in a company's backlog indicate the future direction of sales and earnings.
. The answer to this question is that the $1.6 million of new orders referred to in the May 24, 2002 news release were orders booked in May and not included in the April 30, 2002 backlog.

There were a number of new orders in April, which accounted for the increase in backlog during that month. The fact that the total of those orders equals the amount by which the April 30, 2002 backlog increased as compared to the March 31, 2002 backlog is merely coincidental co·in·ci·den·tal

. So again, the $1.6 million of new orders announced May 24, 2002 were in to addition the previously announced April 30, 2002 backlog.
