Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 31, 2003

Amtech Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASYS) ("Amtech" or the "Company") announced $3.5 million in new orders from two Asian customers indicating at least stability or even some improvement in the Asian market for the Company's products.

Combined, these two orders include multiple horizontal diffusion furnace systems and Amtech's proprietary automation products. Both of these customers have expansion plans that could benefit Amtech in the future. The larger of the two orders is from a new customer who is establishing its first semiconductor fabrication fabrication (fab´rikā´shn),

Benefits of Amtech's automation products include a reduction of particles created by the operators, by minimizing their contact with the wafers, improved operator safety and a reduction in scrap from dropped wafers.

The other order is from a new customer locating in China, which we hope will continue to expand as a market for Amtech's products and further enhance our market penetration Noun 1. market penetration - the extent to which a product is recognized and bought by customers in a particular market
