SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 30, 2002

Foundry Further Extends Its Global 10-Gigabit Ethernet Leadership

with Another Successful 10-Gigabit Ethernet Deployment at One of

Europe's Largest Internet Exchange Points

Foundry Networks(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:FDRY), a leading provider of high-performance enterprise and service provider switching, routing and Layer 4 - 7 traffic management solutions, announced today that one of Europe's largest Internet exchange points, The Amsterdam Internet Exchange The Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) is an Internet Exchange Point situated in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. AMS-IX is a fast growing, non-profit, neutral and independent peering point. The beginnings of the AMS-IX can be traced back to the early 1990s.  (AMS-IX AMS-IX Amsterdam Internet Exchange (also seen as AMSIX) ) has upgraded its network backbone with standards-based 10-Gigabit Ethernet solution using Foundry's high-performance BigIron(R) Layer 3 switches.

AMS-IX is an independent association of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who exchange national and international IP traffic with one another (peering) via the AMS-IX network. There are currently over 130 ISPs that are members of AMS-IX, half of whom are international service providers. Currently, 70 to 80 percent of their Internet usage goes through the AMS-IX network. AMS-IX has four locations in Amsterdam: SARA Sara or Sarah, in the Bible, wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac. With Rebekah, Rachel, and Leah, she was one of the four Hebrew matriarchs. Her name was originally Sarai [Heb.,=princess]. , NIKHEF, Global Switch and Telecity. At each location, Foundry's BigIron Layer 3 switches are connected via Gigabit Ethernet and now also via 10-Gigabit Ethernet on dark fibre giving the AMS-IX network 10 times the performance with minimal additional cost.

By utilizing Foundry's non-blocking, BigIron 10-Gigabit Ethernet switches, the AMS-IX network is the first on the European mainland to offer its 132 members a single peering connection at 10-Gigabit Ethernet speed reducing the costs of multiple connections in a significant way. By taking part in AMS-IX, ISPs realize cost savings, build in extra capacity and redundancy, and offer their customers higher speed.

Foundry 10-Gigabit Ethernet Leadership

AMS-IX has been a satisfied Foundry customer since 1999. "Our previous supplier could no longer provide us with the speed and capacity that we were looking for," said Job Witteman, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of AMS-IX. "We then opted for Foundry Networks because they offered the best value for money. What's unique is that Foundry was the first to ship Gigabit Ethernet products in 1997 and now Foundry is the first member of the 10-Gigabit Ethernet consortium to have developed a 10-Gigabit solution according to the standards. For us in particular that is very important, because we work for many different service providers and have to support a great diversity of equipment."

Foundry has been shipping its standards-based 10-Gigabit Ethernet solution since December 2001. "As a technological leader in delivering the first standards-based 10-Gigabit Ethernet solution, Foundry has emerged as the 10-Gigabit Ethernet vendor of choice offering the best price/performance, reliability, and easy upgradability," said Bobby Johnson, president and CEO of Foundry Networks. "With the 10-Gig deployment at the Amsterdam Internet Exchange, Foundry continues to further extend its leadership with key 10-Gigabit Ethernet deployments at Telecom Ottawa, the University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission  Information Sciences Institute, University Health Network, and The London Internet Exchange
