Amputation no bar: vets enjoy NAGA golf.

Okay, most of us have heard the one about the hardcore golfer who bounced one off the frozen water trap onto the icy green within two feet of the cup and sunk it for a birdie and the best game of his life in the dead of winter - right. Like the truth hasn't already taken enough of a beating from the recounting of fish stories.

The simple truth is it's best to wear your waders around fish and golf stories, unless it's the great story about the opportunities provided by the National Amputee Golf Association (NAGA) at their golf tournaments, "First Swing" seminars and "Learn to Golf" clinics nationwide. Now is the time for amputee golfers to eye a rousing season of golf by checking out the attached NAGA schedule. You'll want to be part of all of the great golfing.

NAGA, in conjunction with DAV Charitable Service Trust and Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA) also sponsors nationwide "First Swing" seminars and "Learn to Golf" clinics annually. The one-or two-day clinics bring golf professionals, physical and recreational therapists, and physically challenged individuals together to teach, learn and enjoy golf. Clinics are open to all physically challenged individuals interested in learning to play golf. Professionals may also be eligible to receive CEU credits/hours. For 18 years the Charitable Service Trust has provided support to the NAGA to provide its program, free of charge, to disabled veterans nationwide. The program stresses ability, not disability, and recognizes the need for an outdoor, recreational leisure activity, which NAGA provides through the introduction of golf. Disabled veterans attending a clinic for the first time often experience a renewed sense of meaning in their lives.

For 50-plus years the NAGA National Invitational Championships have showcased amputee golfer talents. Each year an amputee golfer participating in the tournament at the National Championships is selected to receive the DAV National Commander's Award symbolizing ability over disability in life's everyday occurrences. The award is a tournament highlight you won't want to miss.
