) announced that it is experiencing a work stoppage stoppage - /sto'p*j/ Extreme lossage that renders something (usually something vital) completely unusable. "The recent system stoppage was caused by a fried transformer."  at its plant in Sidney, N.Y.

The work stoppage, which effects up to 1,000 union workers, is in conjunction with negotiating a new contract to replace the three-year contract that expired Oct. 21, 1995. The company expects the effect of this work stoppage to be of short duration. The Sidney plant manufactures interconnect products used primarily in the aerospace industry and other commercial and industrial markets.

Amphenol Corp. manufactures connectors, cable and interconnect systems for electronics, cable television, telecommunications, aerospace, transportation and industrial applications. The company's products are engineered and produced in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. , Europe and the Far East and sold by a worldwide sales and marketing organization.
