Event: Amnesty International (AI) will host a screening of
"Osama," the first film produced in Afghanistan since
the fall of the Taliban. "Osama" won the Golden Globe
for Best Foreign Film in 2004, and provides a moving
glimpse of the suffering of Afghan women under the
Taliban regime. Guest speakers will introduce the film
and provide post-screening discussion about the
history and human rights issues of Afghanistan.
Who: Hekmat Sadat is an AI member and senior writer for
afghanmagazine.com. He has taught on Afghanistan and
Pakistan at Pitzer College, and recently wrote on the
Implementation of the Constitutional Human Rights in
Afghanistan. Ms. Robbie Prepas, an attorney and
midwife, has worked as a consultant for the CDC. She
has worked in Afghanistan, assessing women's health
programs and the role of the United States in
rebuilding the country's healthcare system. Ms. Hossna
Sadat is an AI member and founder of the model United
Nations program at Miramar College. She will speak on
Afghan women's rights issues and the historical
struggle for human rights in Afghanistan. Ms. Riza
Amiri, an Orange County executive who recently
returned from a humanitarian relief trip to
Afghanistan, will share experiences and images from
her relief work.
Interviews: Individuals from the Southern California Afghan
community, Amnesty International members, as well as
humanitarian relief workers with recent project
experience in Afghanistan will be available for
interviews.

organized by the Huntington Beach chapter of Amnesty
International, in conjunction with other individuals
and organizations who work on Afghanistan-related
social and humanitarian issues.
