Amlin calls off acquisition of fellow Lloyd's insurer.


Declaring that the acquisition of fellow Lloyd's Lloyd's, London insurance underwriting corporation of many separate syndicates; often called Lloyd's of London. Founded in the late 17th cent. by a group of merchants, shipowners, and insurance brokers at the coffeehouse of Edward Lloyd, the association is now  underwriter underwriter n. a company or person which/who underwrites an insurance policy, issue of corporate securities, business, or project. Amlin said in a statement that it reserves the right under U.K. takeover rules "to make or participate in an offer within the next six months" if Chaucer's board recommends an offer or if a third party "announces a firm intention" to acquire Chaucer.
