Amkor Technology Completes Negotiations For Two Taiwan Assembly Houses.

CHANDLER, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2001

Amkor Technology Amkor Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMKR) is a high-tech semiconductor product manufacturer that includes Intel and IBM among its primary customers. Previously headquartered in West Chester, Pennsylvania, United States, Amkor recently announced that it will move to Chandler,  (Nasdaq: AMKR AMKR Amkor Technology ) has signed definitive agreements to acquire two semiconductor assembly and test operations in Taiwan, assuring its fast track entry into that country's semiconductor industry.

). The transactions are expected to close within the next few weeks.

TSTC, located in Linkou, is a joint venture created in 1999 with Amkor, Acer and TSMC TSMC Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Ltd

 as major partners. SSC, located in Lung-Tang, began operations in 1997 and is principally owned by Sampo Corporation.

Both SSC and TSTC are manufacturers of high-demand semiconductor devices required for cell phones, lap and desk-top computers, hand-held devices and other popular digital electronic applications.

"Strong market presence by both SSC and TSTC provide Amkor Technology with a long desired foothold as a provider of assembly and test services in the Taiwan semiconductor market," said Eric Larson, executive vice president of corporate development for Amkor.

Amkor will begin operating the two plants using existing staff by mid July.
