Amkor Technology Announces Full-Service European Engineering Support Center.

WEST CHESTER, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 1999--

Amkor Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: AMKR), Tuesday announced the completion of an engineering support center based in Lyon, France. Amkor Wafer Fabrication Services, through its wafer manufacturing partner, Anam Semiconductor, can now provide European foundry and Customer-Owned-Tooling (COT) customers a European-based full-service engineering support center for deep submicron System On Chip designs. The support center has recently completed the first phase plan of installing physical design validation software tools from Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN). Customer designs released to Amkor will be fully verified to Amkor manufacturing rules prior to fabrication. It is Amkor's strategy to provide System on Chip customers a value-added, fully integrated manufacturing model at both the global and local market levels.

Process technologies available through Amkor Wafer Fabrication Services and Anam include aa 18LP, a 0.21-micron, low power, dual gate, 5-layer metal CMOS process and aa 25HP a 0.25-micron, high performance, dual gate, 5-layer metal CMOS process. Coupled with advanced designs, superior submicron solutions, and a leading market position in package assembly and test, Amkor Technology offers total turnkey semiconductor manufacturing services to customers worldwide.

Amkor offers its customers Odyssey(TM) standard cell library solutions from Synopsys. The Odyssey(TM) library is rated over 64K gates/sq.mm on the Amkor 0.21-micron process and 54K gates/sq.mm on the Amkor 0.25-micron process. Solutions include standard cells, I/Os and SRAM compilers.

Amkor also offers the Flexible FAB Express program, a multi-project wafer program that releases a new mask run once every two months. This program allows customers and IP providers the opportunity to evaluate silicon manufactured by Amkor while incurring minimal financial risks. Amkor's unique twist to running multi-project wafers includes combining designs targeted for several Amkor processes on the same mask reticle, allowing System On Chip customers to evaluate the same design on any of Amkor processes at the same time.
