Amkor Expands IC Test Development Capabilities; Will Acquire Integra Technologies.

In a move to significantly expand and enhance its test development capabilities to include the latest generation of integrated circuit integrated circuit (IC), electronic circuit built on a semiconductor substrate, usually one of single-crystal silicon. The circuit, often called a chip, is packaged in a hermetically sealed case or a nonhermetic plastic capsule, with leads extending from it for  packages, including RF and wireless communication devices, Amkor Technology Amkor Technology, Inc. Integra is one of the largest independent production and test development companies in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. , specializing in the development and conversion of IC test software for most major automated test platforms. Integra has aggressively expanded into test programs for mixed-signal and wireless communications devices to meet a rapidly growing industry demand. Integra's operation includes a 23,000 sq. ft facility in San Jose, Calif., and a 20,000 sq. ft facility in Wichita, Kan. Integra, which employs 150 at the two locations, will become a subsidiary of Amkor.

Integra recently acquired a small Silicon Valley specialty test company known as Test Heads. That firm's senior test engineers and wireless/mixed-signal test equipment will be incorporated into the Integra facility in San Jose, ultimately becoming part of Amkor when the agreement is finalized in mid-summer.

"Integra's engineering capabilities and experience will add significant depth to Amkor's worldwide test development team," said Bruce Freyman, corporate vice president for product operations for Amkor. "Integra's Wichita and Silicon Valley test development sites are well aligned with Amkor's offshore production test facilities and the concentration of semiconductor companies in the area. Our customers will be able to seamlessly move from test program development and verification to high volume test production in our Korea and Philippine facilities."

"They are a strong addition to our already highly-skilled staff and will appreciably enhance the test development services we can offer to our customers. This acquisition is another confirmation that Amkor is continuing to be a leader in semiconductor outsource testing."

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
