Amicus Wireless Technology Working in Cooperation with Korea Telecom for Wave-2 Mobile WiMAX Partnership.


SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- KT today announced a strategic partnership agreement in Wave-2 Mobile WiMAX See WiMAX and 802.16.  with Amicus AMICUS Automated Management Information Civil Users System  Wireless Technology, an innovative fabless semiconductor start-up company start-up company

 focused on chipsets optimized for mobile stations. KT is a leader in advanced wireless technology and has launched commercial Mobile WiMAX deployments under the WiBro service offering.

Wave-2 Mobile WiMAX builds upon the strengths of current WiBro services by adding intelligent antenna support such as MIMO (Multiple Input/Multiple Output) Pronounced "my-mo," it is the use of multiple transmitters and receivers (multiple antennas) on wireless devices for improved performance.  and Beamforming. These advanced antenna technologies will significantly improve the already outstanding capabilities of WiBro to make it the world's best performing mobile data service.

Dr. Won-Pyo Hong, Executive Vice President of KT, said, "We are pleased to be partnering with the outstanding team at Amicus in this next step in the evolution of WiBro. Amicus' strengths in building handset optimized chipsets for Wave-2 Mobile WiMAX will enable KT to bring even higher performance wireless networking to our subscribers."

The Amicus/KT partnership developments will focus on the AWT (Abstract Windowing Toolkit) A class library from Sun that provides an application framework and graphical user interface (GUI) routines for Java programmers. AWT was the first user interface development system included in the Java Foundation Classes (JFC). 2000 chipset for Wave-2 Mobile WiMAX mobile devices. Handsets and other mobile terminals enabled with the AWT2000 are expected to deliver the best power/performance characteristics of any carrier-class wireless data service. As a part of this strategic relationship, KT will also be making an investment in Amicus.
