It has a population of 390,000 and includes the settlements of Batley, Birstall, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike, Holmfirth, Huddersfield, Marsden, Meltham, Mirfield and Slaithwaite. Council is changing for the second time this year. The Lib Dems are leaving the leadership coalition, saying they have seen the council through its 'crisis' period following the vote of no confidence in the former Tory Tory (tô`rē), English political party. The term was originally applied to outlaws in Ireland and was adopted as a derogatory name for supporters of the duke of York (later James II) at the time (c. administration in January. This leaves Labour to lead the council alone. With only one seat more than the Tories, Labour's alliance with the Lib Dems increased their voting power. Now, the support of their former Lib Dem LIB DEM Liberal Democrat(s) (UK political party) allies is no longer guaranteed. This could thwart Labour efforts to push policies through against resistance from other parties. Most people are not too interested in the intricacies of council politics. But what the public will want to know is whether this leadership split will slow down progress on important decisions affecting their area. Your view?
