Amica Mutual Lowers 2005 Massachusetts Auto Rates; Action Taken in Light of Romney Administration Reform Efforts.


LINCOLN, R.I. -- Amica Mutual Insurance Amica Mutual Insurance is a mutual insurance company founded in 1907 and located in Lincoln, Rhode Island offering primarily auto, home, and life insurance. The company is licensed in 49 US states with most business concentrated in the Northeastern United States, Florida, Texas,  Company announced today that it will lower its Massachusetts automobile insurance rates in 2005, due to strong reform efforts being put forth by Governor Mitt Romney's administration and specifically by Massachusetts Insurance Commissioner Julianne Bowler. Amica has filed with the Massachusetts Division of Insurance to deviate downward from the state-set rates, asking to offer a 5 percent downward deviation DEVIATION, insurance, contracts. A voluntary departure, without necessity, or any reasonable cause, from the regular and usual course of the voyage insured.

"Commissioner Bowler has demonstrated that she is serious about fixing the anti-competitive automobile insurance system that has existed for years within the Massachusetts marketplace," said Thomas A. "We are in turn incorporating her work in bringing positive change to consumers, and our 2005 deviation filings reflect the anticipated savings that will come with the administration's willingness to see through the reform effort."

Eligible drivers would realize a savings of up to 10 percent off the state set rates. For example, a two car household with an average premium of $2,000 could realize a savings of approximately $200 on annual premiums. Amica also offers discounts on other lines of personal insurance, including homeowners.
