Dr. Souza has been with Amgen since 1981 and has served as director, exploratory programs and has been responsible for the discovery of new product candidates with a focus on molecular, developmental and experimental biology. He was instrumental in the discovery and cloning of NEUPOGEN (R) (Filgrastim, G-CSF G-CSF granulocyte colony-stimulating factor.

More recently, Dr. Souza has led Amgen's efforts in genomic discovery, including the identification in recent weeks of molecules that hold promise in cancer, osteoporosis and other chronic conditions.

He later received his doctorate in molecular biology molecular biology, scientific study of the molecular basis of life processes, including cellular respiration, excretion, and reproduction.
