Ameritech Opts For Full Price Regulation; Proposes 1995 Long Distance Access Prices Lower Than FCC Plan.

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 1995--Ameritech today informed the Federal Communications Commission Federal Communications Commission (FCC), independent executive agency of the U.S. government established in 1934 to regulate interstate and foreign communications in the public interest.  (FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S. ) that it is opting for full price regulation under the interim price cap rules announced by the Commission in March. The company also proposed to accelerate the implementation of the FCC's price cap rules by extending throughout 1995 the reductions that would normally take effect August 1.

Under the FCC rules, the prices Ameritech charges long distance companies for local network connections will be reduced by a total of $27.5 million this year. If Ameritech's waiver The voluntary surrender of a known right; conduct supporting an inference that a particular right has been relinquished.

request is granted, the charges will be reduced by an additional $12 million in 1995.

"Ameritech wants to be the first choice of our long distance industry customers for local network access," said Ronald L. Blake, president of Ameritech long distance industry services. "The price changes we're announcing today will bring us closer to the goal of our UltimateLink initiative, which put us on record as being committed to price reductions. Also, if the FCC grants our waiver, we will be under full price regulation in both the federal and state jurisdictions for the entire year -- a first for the industry.

"These changes also are fully consistent with our Customers First philosophy and with our belief that customers should receive the full benefits of a competitive marketplace," Blake said. "We are confident that if the long distance companies opt to pass these savings on to the marketplace, individual consumers will benefit, too.
