:ABC) today announced that Jane E. Henney Jane E. Henney is an American physician who was the first woman to serve as commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Appointed by President Bill Clinton, she served at the FDA between 1998 and 2001. , M.D., 54, has been elected to its Board of Directors.

The election expands the AmerisourceBergen board from eight to nine members.

Dr. Henney currently is Senior Scholar in Residence at the Association of Academic Health Centers in Washington, D.C. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from 1998 through 2001. She was also Deputy Commissioner for Operations at the FDA from 1992 to 1994.

She is a medical oncologist and has held several posts at the National Cancer Institute, including Deputy Director from 1980 to 1995. Her past academic positions include Vice President for Health Sciences at the University of New Mexico The University of New Mexico (UNM) is a public university in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was founded in 1889. Dr. Henney is a frequent lecturer on a variety of healthcare subjects, and has received many honors and awards in her field.
