) to jointly develop an auto-safety radar system based on Amerigon's ultra-wide band radar.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Amerigon and AlliedSignal will begin work immediately on the development project. The project will focus on potential applications of ultra-wide band radar sensors Radio detection and ranging (radar) is used to sense angle, range and velocity of (moving) scatterers in the environment [1] [2]. Radar sensor figures of merit include maximum range and solid angle, as well as angular, range and velocity resolution.  in AlliedSignal safety restraint systems -- including predictive sensing of conditions inside the passenger compartment, such as the position of occupants before a collision.

AlliedSignal Automotive, based in Southfield, Mich., is one of the world's largest suppliers of total air-bag safety restraint systems, including air bags and seat belts.

Dr. Lon E. Bell, chairman and chief executive officer, noted that Amerigon has worldwide license rights to this proprietary, low-cost radar technology originally developed by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory: see Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

``Our agreement with AlliedSignal validates our belief that tremendous opportunities are available by applying our radar technology to auto-safety products. We will work very hard with AlliedSignal to bring a product to the market as soon as possible,'' Bell stated.

David M. Purvis, vice president of technology for AlliedSignal, stated, ``Major automobile manufacturers are committed to incorporating new safety products, such as radar, in their vehicles. We believe our leadership position within the automotive industry The automotive industry is the industry involved in the design, development, manufacture, marketing, and sale of motor vehicles. In 2006, more than 69 million motor vehicles, including cars and commercial vehicles were produced worldwide. , coupled with Amerigon's technology, offers tremendous growth opportunities for both companies.''

Radar products are expected to grow rapidly since they are a key element of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), a new wave of technologies to improve traffic flow and reduce accidents. According to according to

a California state-sponsored study, the market for ITS products is expected to grow to over $6.2 billion by the year 2000.

The ultra-wide band radar technology has the potential to dramatically reduce the cost of making radar safety products available in vehicles. The radar detects echoes of rapid, wide-band radar pulses reflected over short distances by moving objects. Amerigon has a license for the U.S. patent on this technology. The radar sensor component itself is relatively small, with the electronic circuit measuring less than one square inch.
