(OTC BB: ANIW), a U.S.-based high-tech communications company, has concluded a Joint Venture Agreement with ISS Networks Limited to provide Internet and enhanced telecommunications services in Nigeria Nigeria (nījĭr`ēə), officially Federal Republic of Nigeria, republic (2005 est. pop. 128,772,000), 356,667 sq mi (923,768 sq km), W Africa.. The service, using wireless modem and dial-up access, will be made available to businesses and consumers during the second half of 1999, according to Mary Ellen Tefarikis, president of Americom International. ISS Networks Limited has been awarded VSAT and Internet service provider licenses from the Nigerian Communications Commission for the joint venture. The commission's policy is to encourage Nigerian private sector initiatives in linking the country with the rest of the world to benefit Nigeria's economy and public services. Americom International's Internet access and high-speed communications systems will benefit agriculture in Nigeria by providing access to information such as pest control, farm practices and drought management. Other beneficiaries will include Nigeria's educational system, medical community and business community at large. The joint venture is in keeping with Americom International's strategy of entering niche markets in third world countries in need of an improved communications infrastructure.
