Americans worry about political influence of religion.


Americans are increasingly concerned over religion's involvement with politics, according to according to

A USA Today/CNN/Gallup survey found that 48 percent of respondents In the context of marketing research, a representative sample drawn from a larger population of people from whom information is collected and used to develop or confirm marketing strategy.  believe religion has too much influence on politics. That number is up from 42 percent in 1996.

The poll, reported Nov. 23 by USA Today USA Today

National U.S. daily general-interest newspaper, the first of its kind. Launched in 1982 by Allen Neuharth, head of the Gannett newspaper chain, it reached a circulation of one million within a year and surpassed two million in the 1990s.
, showed that 40 percent of the respondents said religion has too little influence on politics, which represents a drop from 44 percent in 1996.

The survey found that 64 percent believe religion has too little influence on American American, river, 30 mi (48 km) long, rising in N central Calif. in the Sierra Nevada and flowing SW into the Sacramento River at Sacramento. The discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill (see Sutter, John Augustus) along the river in 1848 led to the California gold rush of  morals. That number represents a 5-percent drop from 1996. Sixty-four percent of the poll's respondents also said that moral values in America are getting worse.
