In this second volume in the series, Ripper (history, Everett Community College) draws together biographies of Americans to chronicle the history of the US from 1865 to the present. Each chapter has two or three biographies, on people such as Franklin Roosevelt, W.E.B. Dubois, and Zora Neale Hurston, along with historical context. The final chapter uses the biography of Al Gore to link the Vietnam War to contemporary America. No index is provided.
