American is pleased by DOT ruling in favor of MIA's rates; calls decision "A Wonderful Development" for greater Miami.


MIAMI--(BUSINESS-WIRE)--March 19, 1997--American Airlines Wednesday called the Department of Transportation's ruling in favor of Dade County's method for calculating rates and charges at Miami International Airport Miami International Airport (IATA: MIA, ICAO: KMIA, FAA LID: MIA) is a public airport located eight miles (13 km) northwest of the central business district of Miami, in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States.  "a wonderful development for Greater Miami and its future as a world-class aviation gateway."

The suit against the terminal was filed in federal district court in Miami by United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, US Airways, TWA TWA Time-weighted average, see there , and Air Canada. They were later joined by Lufthansa. Federal Judge Joan Lenard is hearing the case.

Last November, the judge dismissed several of the claims, but referred to DOT the question of the reasonableness of the rates and charges to finance the new terminal. The DOT has now firmly and unequivocally resolved that the project as adopted by the County is fair and reasonable. -0-
