American Technology Corporation Reports New LRAD Orders; Announces MRAD, New Member of ATC's LRAD Product Family.

SAN DIEGO -- American Technology Corporation (ATC) (Nasdaq:ATCO), an innovator of proprietary sound reproduction technologies and products, today reported it has received new LRAD(TM) orders this month totaling $846,000, including a $690,000 order for the U.S. Army's 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment deploying to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. The LRAD orders are being delivered this quarter.

ATC's vice president of government and force protection systems, Carl Gruenler, said, "Due to LRAD's success in supporting military operations other than war, and its flexibility in meeting various mission requirements, the U.S. armed services are evaluating the formal program acquisition path for LRAD."

"Furthermore, the Department of Defense has shown significant interest in the advanced fielded prototype of our new Medium Range Acoustic Device (MRAD(TM))."

ATC plans to introduce this new member of its LRAD product family this summer. MRAD will be about half the size and weight of LRAD, and is optimized for land and vehicle-based operations. MRAD is expected to be particularly effective on armored vehicles for urban warfare, shorter-range checkpoints and access denial, plus multiple applications for local, national and international law enforcement.

LRAD is ATC's proprietary long-range hailing and warning, directed acoustic device designed to communicate with authority and exceptionally high intelligibility in a 15-30 degree beam. LRAD is used to issue verbal challenges with instructions in excess of 500 hundred yards in a focused beam with a follow up warning tone to influence behavior or determine intent. Effective ranges of over 1,000 yards are being reported from U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard vessels stationed in the Persian Gulf.

Gruenler concluded, "Beyond MRAD, we are working with agencies and companies on developing enhanced versions of LRAD to solve the increasingly difficult challenges associated with protecting high-value critical infrastructure as well as national and international borders. We believe extensions of our proprietary LRAD technology can play a vital role in deploying and effectively operating advanced security systems and fighting the global war on terrorism."
