Precise satellite-based navigation and location system originally developed for U.S. military use.
 (GPS) technology.

Code-named Tracker, ATC's GPS is a portable device that features unprecedented accuracy to within one to two feet. Operating in three dimensions, Tracker is the first low-cost, portable GPS unit designed to locate moving objects, such as children or pets, and to provide the elevation, direction, and distance of moving or stationary objects. The portable receiving unit and any one of multiple remote tracking units can be moving at the same time.

"Most GPS systems require map reading skills and with the signal from NAVSTAR See GPS.  satellites are only accurate to an average of 33 feet," said Elwood G. Norris, chief technology officer. "ATC's GPS achieves a much higher order of accuracy without a ground-based differential signal. Tracker features point-and-read ease-of-use and will be small, lightweight and battery-operated."

According to the Consumer Electronics Marketing Association, the GPS market is exploding. With a 40 percent annual growth rate, the GPS market is expected to reach $8 billion by the year 2000.

"With only a fraction of the circuitry required by other GPS systems, Tracker will be very low-cost relative to GPS systems currently on the market," said Dale W. Williams, president and chief executive officer. "We believe that we can rapidly exploit this technology by allocating a separately funded team to the Tracker product.
