BILLERICA, Mass. -- American Science and Engineering, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASEI ASEI - American Society of Engineers of Indian Origin
ASEI - Application Service Element Invocation
ASEI - Australian Student Environment Network
) (AS&E(R)), a leader in X-ray detection technology, announced today the receipt of a $2.3 million order from a Middle Eastern law enforcement agency for multiple Z(R) Backscatter(TM) Vans (ZBV ZBV - Vail/Eagle, CO, USA (Airport Code)
ZBV - Zur Besonderen Verwendung (German: for special use)
).

"This latest order is the result of our heightened presence in the Middle East," said Anthony R. Fabiano, President and CEO of AS&E. "We have worked hard to demonstrate and communicate the unique benefits of Z Backscatter technology to detect terrorist threats. Our client's previous success with the ZBV has resulted in this follow-on order -- giving them added tools to enhance their inspection capability. The ZBV is ideal for law enforcement applications as it can easily be deployed and quickly maneuvered in high-threat situations."

A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E's Z Backscatter Van is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The system's unique "drive-by" capability allows one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging while the ZBV drives past suspect vehicles and objects. For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a remote console A terminal or workstation in a remote location that is used to monitor and control a local computer. is available for operating the system in stationary mode from a distance of up to 500 meters.
