American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AMEX: ASE) (AS&E(R)), a leader in X-ray detection technology, announced today the appointment of Robert C. Goodhouse to the position of Vice President, Sales - Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Prior to joining AS&E, Mr. Goodhouse was Vice President of International Sales at SureBeam Corporation, a food irradiation solutions provider, where he launched and directed marketing and sales activities in South Africa, Spain and Mexico. Before SureBeam, Mr. Goodhouse was Middle East Marketing Manager for Northrop Grumman's marine electronics division, Sperry Marine. At Sperry, he captured new business with several Middle Eastern Ministries of Defense.

Prior to Sperry, Mr. Goodhouse spent more than two decades in multiple senior-level roles at FMC Corporation, a diversified machinery and chemicals company serving agricultural, industrial and defense markets worldwide. As Director of the Middle East and Africa Region, he developed profitable joint ventures in Saudi Arabia and achieved 130 percent revenue growth in this region over four years. In the role of Regional Vice President, based in the Middle East and Europe, Mr. Goodhouse initiated expansion into Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates through major defense contracts and the establishment of wholly-owned FMC entities.

Mr. Goodhouse holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Foreign Service, as well as a Certificate in Arab Studies from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, Washington D.C.
