American Running goes to the White House. (Member News).

On June 20, 2002, President Bush turned the White House lawn into a recreational smorgasbord by inviting health and fitness organizations to set up booths and activities across the lawn for over 1,000 public participants. The American Running Association received an invitation to be the group representing the sport of running.

This event marked the kick off of a national campaign to urge Americans to exercise at least 30 minutes each day. "Better health is an individual responsibility, and it is an important national goal," said Bush in a speech to presenters and participants. "The evidence is clear: A healthier America is a stronger America."
