American River Bankshares Foundation Funds Five Local Organizations that Serve the Most Vulnerable Women and Children in Our Community.

 Bankshares Foundation today announced its 2006 grant recipients, awarding a total of $70,000 to five local non-profit organizations A non-profit organization (abbreviated "NPO", also "non-profit" or "not-for-profit") is a legally constituted organization whose primary objective is to support or to actively engage in activities of public or private interest without any commercial or monetary profit purposes.  based in Amador, Placer, Sacramento or Sonoma Counties.

The funding descriptions are as follows:

* Acres of Hope in Placer County will receive $20,000 towards installing a playground and implementing a family skills building program.

* Amador-Tuolumne Community Resources in Amador County will receive $15,000 to build a covered children's play area to provide a safe place to play for the children that stay at the Amador Emergency Shelter Emergency shelters are places for people to live temporarily when they can't live in their previous residence, similar to homeless shelters. The main difference is that an emergency shelter typically specializes in people fleeing a specific type of situation, such as battered .

* Redwood Empire Food Bank The Redwood Empire Food Bank is an organization dedicated to feeding the some 30,000 low income people in Sonoma, Lake, Napa, Mendocin, and Del Norte counties, in California. External links

The mission of the American River Bankshares Foundation is to support organizations that create opportunity, enhance self-esteem and provide physical and emotional well-being for the most vulnerable women and children. Proposals were accepted to fund either the general operations of an organization's mission or a specific program relating to relating to relate prepconcernant

 women and children. Each proposal is vetted by a volunteer employee committee, which then recommends a list of ten applicants for funding consideration to the Foundation's Board of Directors.

Taber, President of the American River Bankshares Foundation. "We feel the five organizations selected by our employee committee and Foundation Board are truly exemplary organizations that stood out in a crowd of nearly fifty excellent applicants."

The mission of Wellspring Women's Center in the Oak Park Community is to nurture NURTURE.
