American Respiratory Alliance Will Use Nymox's NicAlert as its Official Test Agent in Smoking Cessation Programs.

Nymox Pharmaceutical Corporation (Nasdaq:NYMX) and the American Respiratory Alliance jointly announced today that NicAlert(TM) will be used as the official test agent in several smoking cessation programs to be offered by the American Respiratory Alliance.

NicAlert is a powerful one-step semi-quantitative urine test for detecting smoking and tobacco product exposure that received clearance for medical use from the U.S. FDA in October 2002. NicAlert provides the capability of measuring cotinine levels in an easy-to-use, cost effective, rapid format. The NicAlert product does not require any instruments or special training for its use.

Founded over 90 years ago, the American Respiratory Alliance provides programs, information and services about respiratory health for adults with chronic lung diseases, children with asthma and their parents, adults and adolescents who would like to quit smoking, and health professionals and others who require the most current information on lung diseases and health. The Alliance provides tobacco prevention, cessation and education programs to youth and adults through school programs and self-help and group activities. The Alliance also provides supportive materials to quitters. Health and wellness projects include cessation help for pregnant women and awareness programs about secondhand smoke and other environmental and occupational hazards to lung heath. Nymox Pharmaceutical Corporation also recently announced that the results of a large European clinical trial showed that NicAlert can help smokers quit. The study found significant smoking reduction over the four-month trial period when nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) was combined with individual cotinine levels as measured by NicAlert. The study of NRT with NicAlert was undertaken at the Hirslanden Lung Center Zurich, Switzerland. The lead investigator was Dr. Karl Klingler. Some results from this study were presented at the 75th anniversary of the Congress of Swiss Pneumologists in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Further results will be presented at the 12th World Conference on Tobacco or Health in Helsinki August 3-8, 2003.
