American Red Cross Statistics from Northeast Ohio July 28 Floods.


CLEVELAND -- The American Red Cross American Red Cross: see Red Cross.  of Greater Cleveland Greater Cleveland is a nickname for the metropolitan area surrounding Cleveland in Ohio.

Northeast Ohio refers to a similar but substantially larger area as described below.

--Provided assistance to 346 clients in Lake and Ashtabula counties to date

--Is operating two service centers at Chase Bank in Painesville and the Ashtabula Red Cross Chapter; those centers will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

--Sheltered 188 people

--Served 17,916 meals and snacks served

--Distributed more than 885 clean up kits and how-to tips on how to clean flooded dwellings.

--Opened a cooling center A cooling center is a temporary air-conditioned public space set up by local authorities to deal with the health effects of a heat wave. Usually sited at several locations throughout a city, cooling centers are meant to prevent hyperthermia, especially among the elderly without air  at Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  Elementary School elementary school: see school.  in Chardon for residents who lost power on Tuesday and supported another shelter for nursing home residents with food, cots and blankets.

Additionally, the American Red Cross continues to provide water, snacks and other assistance with three Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) traveling the affected areas.

In-Kind Donations -- We encourage residents who wish to contribute in-kind donations of clothing and other household supplies to donate the items to Goodwill or to the Salvation Army.
