WHAT: On May 9, 2006 The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter will
host its 7th annual International Humanitarian Law Seminar
entitled, International Humanitarian Law: Children and War.
Both the legal community and general public are invited to
join our panel in a discussion on the impact of war on
children. The exploitation of children in war is
far-reaching. From unwilling child soldier recruits, to
imprisonment and abuse, to starvation and abandonment, the
numbers of innocent children in countries all over the
world, who are being victimized for causes and reasons they
may not even comprehend, is staggering.
WHEN: Tuesday May 9, 2006. 3:30pm - 6:00pm. The event is
followed by a Reception.

WHY: As part of its humanitarian mission, the American Red Cross
is responsible for the dissemination of information on
international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.
The seminar on international humanitarian law, as it relates
to children in war, provides an opportunity to fulfill this
mission by introducing this topic to both the legal
community and the general public within the Bay Area.
