ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 30, 1999--

Editorial Summary

-- AMI announces the MegaRAID Ultra2 LVD See LVDS.

LVD - Low Voltage Differential
 Cluster Kit, a complete

solution for system integrators and VARs to enable clustering

support on current server platforms.

-- The MegaRAID Cluster Kit includes two MSCS-certified MegaRAID

Ultra2 LVD (Series 438) RAID controllers, four MegaRAID Cluster

Enablers, cables and an Ultra2 LVD subsystem.

American Megatrends American Megatrends Incorporated (AMI) is a Georgia, USA based hardware company that creates PC hardware and firmware. It was founded in 1985 by the current chairman and president, S. Shankar.  Inc. (AMI) today announced the availability of the MegaRAID(R) Ultra2 LVD Cluster Kit, a complete solution that provides nearly 100 percent uptime to systems integrators and solutions providers.

Included in the kit are two Microsoft Cluster Server Clustering software from Microsoft for Windows NT/2000. It provides rudimentary load balancing and two-node failover, which allows a second server to take over if the first one fails. Cluster Server was formerly code named Wolfpack.  (MSCS See Microsoft Cluster Server. ) Certified MegaRAID Ultra2 LVD (Series 438) controllers providing the highest TPCC TPCC Trade Promotion Coordinating Committee

With eight drive bays, the external subsystem features three redundant power supplies, eight sets of drive rails, two fans, a backplane and an I/O interface See port and expansion slot. . The SAF-TE SAF-TE SCSI Access Fault-Tolerant Enclosure  compliant enclosure offers monitoring and status of its fans, temperature, power supplies and drives. This subsystem ships without drives, allowing the user to customize the number and type of drives necessary for a particular implementation, providing the maximum flexibility.

"AMI's Cluster Kit provides users with the ability to gain Active-Active failover clustering support without an investment in overhead," said MegaRAID Product Manager Siamak Iranpour. "By using the Cluster Kit, IS professionals can utilize today's leading technology on their current install base."

The MegaRAID Ultra2 LVD (Series 438) controller stands as the flagship clustering solution of the MegaRAID line of products. It supports more fault tolerant The ability to continue non-stop when a hardware failure occurs. A fault-tolerant system is designed from the ground up for reliability by building multiples of all critical components, such as CPUs, memories, disks and power supplies into the same computer.  RAID levels than any other RAID solution and delivers superior performance through a tight hardware design. AMI's Advanced ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  generates RAID parity, freeing up Intel's i960RD(TM) RISC Processor, for additional processing. Three Ultra2 channels are available on the Series 438, with each channel powered by a Symbios Logic 53C895 SCSI SCSI

processor. A cache capacity of up to 128 MB coupled with an extensive caching policy further augments MegaRAID Ultra2's performance. The MegaRAID Ultra2 LVD (Series 438) also features an integrated flash ROM to facilitate easy upgrades.

The MegaRAID Ultra2 LVD (Series 438) includes an exclusive RAID utility, FlexRAID, a powerful and flexible means of managing a RAID system. With this proven dynamic technology, adding drives to an array no longer requires a system reboot To reload the operating system, which restarts the computer. See boot.

(operating system) reboot - (From boot) A boot with the implication that the computer has not been down for long, or that the boot is a bounce intended to clear some state of wedgitude.

. FlexRAID also enables the system administrator to change RAID levels on-the-fly, without having to reboot. This not only avoids costly down time, but also improves performance by allowing a change from degraded to optimal operation.

The AMI Ultra2 LVD Cluster Kit also includes four MegaRAID Cluster Enablers that eliminate termination and bus problems and allow support for up to 25 meters of ultra high-density cable in point-to-point configuration. The Cluster Enablers also automatically isolate/terminate the SCSI channel in the event of server failure and allow for full utilization of SCSI specifications. The MegaRAID Cluster Enablers provide a reliable method for live insertion and removal of entire systems in either a multiple initiator environment or cluster environment.

In addition, the AMI Cluster Kit includes a disk subsystem with SAF-TE support for enclosure temperature, fans and drive failure monitoring. This enclosure also features dual bus or single bus configuration.

With all the components packaged in one simple kit, AMI provides VARs, system integrators and individual users the ability to enable clustering support on their current server platforms. This AMI clustering technology has already been implemented by several of the major Tier 1 and Tier 2 server companies.
