American Megatrends RAID Technology Helps Unisys Break TPC-C Performance World Records.

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 26, 1999--

Editorial Summary:

-- AMI announces that recently developed RAID controller technology

allowed Unisys to achieve world record TPC (Transaction Processing Performance Council, San Francisco, CA, www.tpc.org) An organization devoted to benchmarking transaction processing systems. In order to derive the number of transactions that can be processed in a given time frame, TPC benchmarks measure the total performance of  performance for a

4-way server.

American Megatrends, Inc. (AMI) an industry-leading RAID technology provider, today announced that the Unisys Aquanta ES5045 system, which incorporates AMI RAID controller technology, set new certified transaction processing performance world-records for a 4-way server with recently published TPC benchmarks.

"This RAID technology not only provides a level of I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

I/O - Input/Output
performance commensurate with the processing power produced by four of the newly released Pentium III Xeon processors, but actually augments overall server performance as evidenced by these latest TPC benchmarks," said Sanjay Sehgal, Director of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  Sales at American Megatrends. "The AMI controller technology used in these tests is the latest in a generation of award-winning AMI RAID products specifically designed and co-developed with OEM customers who require the highest levels of I/O performance, high-availability and superior data management capabilities."

The Unisys Aquanta ES5045 server achieved its award-winning performance by utilizing four Pentium III Xeon processors with seven AMI RAID controllers, each offering data throughput up to 80 MB per second across each channel.

Outperforming all other systems in its class in terms of I/O throughput capabilities, the Unisys Aquanta ES5045 server achieved 24,328.67 tpmC (transactions per minute), a world record (March 1999), at a cost of only $22.99/tpmC on the TPC-C A benchmark that measures overall transaction processing performance. See TPC.  benchmark. The Unisys Aquanta ES5045 server used four Intel Pentium III Xeon processors, 8 GB of EDO memory, 11 expansion slots and seven AMI RAID controllers to manage the I/O throughput necessary to achieve the above transaction levels on both benchmarks.

The TPC-C tests are rigorous widely known industry standard benchmarks conducted under supervision of the Transaction Processing Performance Council Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1985 to define transaction processing and database benchmarks and to disseminate objective, verifiable TPC performance data to the industry.  (http://www.tpc.org), and provide an indication of real-world server performance in online transaction processing See transaction processing and OLCP.  (OLTP (OnLine Transaction Processing) See transaction processing and OLCP.
