"Taking the lead in the PCI RAID market is one giant step toward AMI's goal of implementing MegaRAID(R) technology at all levels of computing from desktops to enterprise servers," said Sanjay Sehgal, AMI's director of RAID Sales.

According to GartnerGroup's Dataquest Research, AMI achieved the number one position in total third-party host RAID sales in 1998. With 304,008 units shipped in 1998, the latest results published by Dataquest, AMI supplied 50 percent of the third-party host RAID market.

"The host-based RAID market is forecast to increase from 1.1 million units in 1998 to almost 3.2 million units by 2003," said Roger Cox, chief analyst with GartnerGroup's Dataquest. "This forecast illustrates the increasing demand for RAID technology as client-server architectures continue to proliferate pro·lif·er·ate

across the spectrum, from small business environments to enterprise level data centers."

With its engineering expertise in BIOS, RAID, motherboard design, diagnostic and management software utilities, AMI has the expertise and infrastructure in place to design and build the industry's most feature-rich RAID controllers that offer the highest levels of performance, availability and manageability.

"AMI's RAID technology, built around Intel(R)'s i960(R) family of I/O processors, is an ideal solution for today's storage environments," said Wendy Vittori, general manager of Intel's I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

Products Division. "We look forward to supplying I/O building blocks to fuel further success of AMI's and the industry's products and technologies."

AMI's new family of MegaRAID(R) controllers, which includes the Enterprise, Explorer and Express series that allow customers to choose RAID products tailored to their specific data needs and demands, will enable AMI to continue to lead the RAID market into the future. AMI is also releasing HyperDisk(TM), an IDE hard drive accelerator/mirroring solution for desktops and workstations based on AMI's advanced PCI RAID technology.

"Our number one position in the PCI RAID market proves the reliability and superiority of our RAID technology. It also positions us to meet most specific needs and demands of new and existing customers in OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  and channel markets," Sehgal added.
