American Megatrends Develops USB Firmware with Hub Support for Intel's 930HX Microcontroller.

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 1996--American Megatrends, Inc. (AMI) today released the development of a new USB USB
 in full Universal Serial Bus

Type of serial bus that allows peripheral devices (disks, modems, printers, digitizers, data gloves, etc.) to be easily connected to a computer.
firmware solution with hub support for the Intel 930HX microcontroller.

This firmware has been fully validated and tested for functionality. It provides a foundation for USB developers to quickly and easily incorporate hub support into their peripherals.

The release of the USB-WARE Reference Design Kit for the Intel 930AX comes on the heels of tremendous OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  and device manufacturer demand for USB with Hub Support. USB-WARE provides complete support for Intel's 930HX microcontroller and fully complies with USB 1.0 core specification. AMI's USB-WARE has been thoroughly tested and validated for functionality; thereby providing complete USB solutions from a single source. By decreasing development time and curbing compatibility problems, AMI has developed a quick time to market solution with capabilities well ahead of its USB firmware competitors.

USB-WARE fully complements Intel's 930HX microcontroller by providing a foundation for implementing the USB hub A device that increases the number of USB ports on a PC. However, since the hub plugs into one of the USB ports on the computer, the total number of additional ports is minus one. For example, a four-port hub adds three new ports.  support within AMI's USB firmware core. USB-WARE also offers complete smart hub See intelligent hub.  capabilities. Additional support features include driver notification of new devices, budgeting of power and power switching, as well as over current protection for USB peripherals. AMI's USB hub supporting firmware extends the capability of Plug and Play devices outside the computer by allowing the connection of multiple peripherals with ease.

AMI's USB firmware strictly adheres to the USB 1.0 core specification and provides complete support for hub management. In addition, USB-WARE performs the necessary requisite functions determined by the Human Interface Device (HID) Class Specification and the USB Hub Specification. AMI's USB-WARE receives full accommodation by the USB-aware BIOS through legacy support for non-USB aware operating systems Operating systems can be categorized by technology, ownership, licensing, working state, usage, and by many other characteristics. In practice, many of these groupings may overlap. . Another significant advantage, USB-WARE supports Windows 9x/NT through WDM/USB drivers.

With the requests required by the core USB specification, USB-WARE supports the entire functionality required by the USB Hub Specification. USB-WARE fully maintains all descriptors required by USB Hub Specifications for determining device functionality. AMI's USB-WARE aids all standard hub device requests needed for enumeration 1.  through hubs including power budgeting, power switching, over-current protection, and notification of device connection and disconnection. Also, USB- WARE fully supports the Windows 9x Refers to Windows 95, 98 and ME.
