ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 1997--

Company Creating First of Its Kind Next Generation Diagnostic

Software for Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.

American Megatrends American Megatrends Incorporated (AMI) is a Georgia, USA based hardware company that creates PC hardware and firmware. It was founded in 1985 by the current chairman and president, S. Shankar. , Inc. (AMI) announced today that development for a first of its kind Windows NT diagnostic has neared completion.

AMI's PC Care NT diagnostic will be entering beta testing (programming) beta testing - Testing a pre-release (potentially unreliable) version of a piece of software by making it available to selected users. This term derives from early 1960s terminology for product cycle checkpoints, first used at IBM but later standard throughout the  and scheduled availability has been targeted for Q2 1997.

Based on the AMI's PC Care 95 Utility Suite, PC Care NT includes the hardware diagnostic module. "By focusing on the diagnostic portion, AMI can provide a System Manageability tool that no other company can - a comprehensive Windows NT hardware diagnostics package," AMI Marketing Manager Joe Leader stated.

AMI's strong diagnostic software background includes the award-winning AMIDiag for DOS and the Windows 95 software utility suite PC Care. "AMI has developed diagnostics for DOS and Windows, the next logical step for AMI was to create a Windows NT diagnostic," AMI Director of Sales Scott Magnes stated. "In addition, AMI continues its tradition of being a technology leader by creating the first of its kind Windows NT diagnostic software."

PC Care NT has diagnostics for the system board, hard disks, video, CD-ROM CD-ROM: see compact disc.

. AMI's system board diagnostics provide tests for Intel's Pentium(R) Pro, Pentium(R), 486, and 386 processors. In addition, PC Care NT tests PCI buses and Plug & Play devices. PC Care NT has extensive multimedia diagnostics for sound cards and CD-ROM drives. The multimedia tests include a CD tray test, CD data test, CD audio tests, and mono and stereo sound card diagnostics.

AMI has included the ability to log all tests times, activities, and errors. This provides the user the resources to track the status of all hardware, which can assist in determining device failures by logging the testing history for future reference.

American Megatrends offers a full line of RAID Hardware and Utilities in addition to producing a variety of hardware and software solutions including motherboards, BIOS, software utilities, PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, San Jose, CA, www.pcmcia.org) An international standards body and trade association that was founded in 1989 to establish a standard for connecting peripherals to portable computers.
