American Marketing Association, Houston Chapter, Announces the 2006 Marketer of the Year; Initiative of Chief Marketing Officers Select the Houston Symphony for its Marketing Vision and Accomplishment.

HOUSTON -- The Houston Chapter of the American Marketing Association The American Marketing Association, one of the largest professional associations for marketers, has 38,000 members worldwide in every area of marketing. For over six decades the AMA has been the leading source for information, knowledge sharing and development in the marketing profession.  (AMA (Automatic Message Accounting) The recording and reporting of telephone calls within a telephone system. It includes the calling and called parties and start and stop times of the call. ) has named the Houston Symphony The Houston Symphony Orchestra is a professional orchestra based in Houston, Texas. Since 1966, it has performed at the Jesse H. Jones Hall for the Performing Arts in downtown Houston.  as its 2006 Marketer of the Year. The announcement, made at AMA's September luncheon, is the culmination of more than a year of planning, nomination gathering and judging.

To be eligible for the Marketer of the Year award, each nominated company, organization or institution was required to distinguish itself through its innovation, market knowledge, leadership, objectives and execution.

The nomination process began in June, when AMA members were invited to submit candidates for Marketer of the Year. Each candidate was then interviewed regarding their target markets, strategies and goals, including the marketing mix of product, place, price and promotion. After the initial judging by AMA Houston past presidents, the list was narrowed to four candidates. An initiative of Houston-area chief marketer officers then scored each finalist. The finalist with the highest score was declared the Marketer of the Year.

"The judges were faced with a particularly difficult task," stated Michelle Acosta, president, AMA Houston. "Each of the four finalists - Continental Airlines, Houston Symphony, Imperial Sugar and MD Anderson Cancer Center - exhibited above-board achievement in marketing from conception to execution. In the end, the Houston Symphony's agility and proven results in marketing to diverse audiences for its classical, pops and children's programs drove the judges' decision."

"Everyone in our organization is committed to finding new and innovative ways to serve Houston by inviting people to share the power and inspiration of great orchestral music," said Matthew VanBesien, Executive Director/CEO, Houston Symphony. "To have our marketing team recognized by their peers for their innovativeness and success in presenting that message to the community makes us all very proud."
