 will be the "spokesdog" for National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September, sponsored by the American Library Association American Library Association, founded 1876, organization whose purpose is to increase the usefulness of books through the improvement and extension of library services.  (ALA). Lassie posters, bookmarks and door hangers are prominently featured in the ALA's spring catalogue which is marketed to more than 100,000 public, school and academic libraries nationwide.

Two posters and ancillary products have been designed for the ALA by Golden Books Entertainment Group, which owns the Lassie copyrights. The ALA's annual Library Card Sign-Up Month campaign encourages parents and others to visit their local libraries to obtain a library card for the children in their lives. The promotion occurs at the beginning of the school year to underscore the important role libraries play in a child's academic success.

Proceeds from the sale of these posters support the work of the American Library Association, which promotes the highest quality library services and public access to information.

In spring 1998, Golden Books will introduce a Lassie Look-Look book featuring scenes from the new Lassie television series currently airing Saturday nights on Animal Planet.
