The discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill (see Sutter, John Augustus) along the river in 1848 led to the California gold rush of Iron Metal Sculpture Competition have been announced. The sculptures are made from scrap metal collected and made available to local artists by Minneapolis-based metal recycler American Iron. The annual contest is held in conjunction with the Minneapolis Aquatennial The Minneapolis Aquatennial is an annual event held in the U.S. city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, since 1940 celebrating the city's famous lakes, rivers, and streams. Its current tagline is The Ten Best Days of Summer. Celebration. Artists were awarded cash prizes for first, second and third place in three categories: * Large (floor)--Robert Burt, first place; Cheryl Fitzgerald, second place; Dillon Allen Al·len , Edgar 1892-1943. American anatomist who is noted for his studies of hormones and for the discovery (1923) of estrogen. , Justin Peters and Scott Griswold third place tie; and Rochelle Becker, Arden Mille, James Sorenson and John Orth, honorable mention. * Small (tabletop)--Dirk DuBois, first place; James Bailey, second place; Tom Slettenhaugh, third place; and Kirstin Hanson, honorable mention. * Wall (supported)--Dirk DuBois, first place; Gall Katz Katz , Bernard 1911-2003. German-born British physiologist. He shared a 1970 Nobel Prize for the study of nerve impulse transmission. James, second and third places; and Fred Annes, honorable mention. |
