American HomePatient announces joint venture with Columbia/HCA in Central Virginia.


FRANKLIN, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 1995--Edward K. Wissing, President and Chief Executive Officer of American HomePatient (Nasdaq:AHOM) today announced the signing of a joint venture arrangement with Columbia/HCA to provide home care services and equipment in Central Virginia including Richmond.

This is the second homecare joint venture American HomePatient has developed with Columbia/HCA. The first one, in Nashville, Tenn., was formed in November, 1994.

The joint venture will provide home respiratory equipment and services and home medical equipment and supplies to Columbia/HCA's three Central Virginia area hospitals -- Chippenham Medical Center, Henrico Doctors' Hospital Doctors' Hospital was a medical drama that ran on NBC during the 1975-1976 season. American HomePatient will now have six joint venture relationships with prestigious hospitals including the two with Columbia/HCA in Nashville and Central Virginia.

"Joint ventures with hospitals to provide home care services and products is not new for us," explained Mr. Wissing. "In fact, our first two such arrangements in Little Rock and Dallas were formed over six years ago. The formation of hospital joint ventures is an integral part of our long term growth, and we will continue to pursue the development of these partnerships."

American HomePatient is the fourth largest diversified provider of home care services in the country with 182 locations in 26 states. The company's primary product and service offerings include home respiratory services, home infusion, parenteral parenteral /pa·ren·ter·al/ (pah-ren´ter-al) not through the alimentary canal, but rather by injection through some other route, as subcutaneous, intramuscular, etc.
