Continued strong sales and earnings growth placed American Healthways among 19 health-care companies on this year's list. To date in fiscal year 2005, the Company has experienced significant growth in the following areas:

--Increase in actual lives under management to 1,487,000 at the end of the second quarter of fiscal 2005, up 41% from 1,054,000 at the end of the second quarter of fiscal 2004.

--Rapid growth in demand from self-insured self-insured Self fund Health insurance adjective Referring to the practice of carrying an individual health insurance policy for oneself; self insurance is usually more expensive than group insurance  employers with self-insured lives under management increasing 131% to 488,000 at the end of the second quarter from the same time in fiscal 2004.

--Sustained momentum in health plan contracts with 13 new or extended relationships being forged since the end of fiscal 2004.

Companies selected for the Hot Growth 100 are publicly traded and ranked according to their performance in sales growth, earnings growth and return on capital over a three-year period. Companies on the list must have a market cap of at least $25 million and a share price of at least $5. According to BusinessWeek's three-year analysis, American Healthways experienced an average increase in sales of nearly 47 percent, a 99 percent average increase in profits and a 13.5 percent average return on capital.
