) today announced a new three-year agreement to implement and manage its hospital-based Diabetes Healthways(SM) program for Deaconess dea·con·ess  
n.

Diabetes Healthways for hospitals is a comprehensive program that helps physicians and nurses manage inpatients and outpatients with diabetes. This includes physician support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services , case management, professional and clinical staff education, clinical interventions and patient education. The program's inpatient component uniquely enables hospitals to address the special needs of patients with diabetes, regardless of their reason for admission. The program's outpatient component is designed to help individuals with diabetes develop and practice the self-management skills that will improve their health status and quality of life and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications.
